Описание к видео EP202 Abbey Gate and The Citadel Military College Accountability Gap

The search for the next president of The Citadel raises a larger question the profession of arms is still confronting.

On August 26, 2021, thirteen American service members were killed at Abbey Gate during the Kabul withdrawal. Years later, accountability questions still echo across the force and among Gold Star families.

Now, retired four star Marine General Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr., the former CENTCOM commander during the withdrawal, has been named a finalist to lead The Citadel.

At the same time, Pete Hegseth publicly stated:

“Out with the Chiarellis, the McKenzies and the Milleys.”

Reasonable professionals can debate that position. But the institutional signal matters.

What message does this selection send about senior leader accountability?

What does it teach future cadets about personal responsibility?
And how should military institutions balance experience, timing, and trust?

This episode examines the leadership, cultural, and accountability questions now facing The Citadel and the broader US military.

What does this mean for the military?
