Over my past 8 yrs of training and teaching, I've found 4 distinct methods of climb-ups. Typically, people can't learn 1 level without first learning the ones that came before (due to lack of technique, strength, or both). Because of this, I teach different levels of climb-ups to different levels of practitioners. It is interesting to note the diminishing returns in speed for each level of climb-up. LVL 4 is only .1-.2 sec. faster than LVL 3, LVL 3 is about 2x faster than LVL 2, and LVL 2 can be 2-4x faster than LVL 1. See below for my classification of the 4 different levels.

LVL 1
Go from cat hang to both feet up on top of the wall.
Using knees, forearms, asymmetry, and everything is allowed.
Getting up by any means possible is an accomplishment in itself!

LVL 2
Go from cat hang to both feet up on top of the wall.
You may only touch the wall with your hands and your feet (no knees, no forearms).
The arms must be used symmetrically.
The feet should plant on top of the wall at the same time.
The entire climb up appears to be 3 separate moves (a pull up, a dip up, and a top out).

LVL 3
Go from cat hang to both feet up on top of the wall.
You may only touch the wall with your hands and your feet (no knees, no forearms).
The arms must be used symmetrically.
The feet should plant on top of the wall at the same time.
The entire climb up appears to be 1 fluid motion.

LVL 4
Go from cat hang to both feet up on top of the wall.
You may only touch the wall with your hands and your feet (no knees, no forearms).
The arms must be used symmetrically.
The feet should plant on top of the wall at the same time.
The entire climb up appears to be 1 fluid motion.
The feet only touch 2 places on the wall (the original landing point and the top of the wall).
