Use 2% of your working capital (betting bank) for stakes. With a £2,000 betting bank, your stakes on day 1 would be £40 per horse. If it was a losing day and your bank reduced to £1,920, on day 2 stakes would be 2% of £1,920 = £38.40 per horse. However, if it was a winning day and your bank rose to £2,160, the following day's stakes would be £43.20.

This "daily-variable" staking ensures that your bank is never in danger during a losing run ... but profits are maximised on winning runs. Given that we should win more than we lose, profits are further enhanced. Finally, we can use 2% of the bank, whereas level stakes would only safely allow 1.5%.

At the end of each month, take any monies over £2,000 out of your betting bank as profit.

START SMALL: On your first day, I'd advise you to start with a £100 betting bank and use £2 stakes. As your confidence grows, you can add capital to your bank so that stakes can increase -- but NEVER use more than 2% of your bank for stakes.

PLEASE NOTE: I calculate profits @ £40 level stakes (not daily-variable stakes) because (a) everyone starts at a different time, so will have different stakes, and (b) level stakes are easier to follow for the newcomer.

BACKING on BETTING EXCHANGES

When you're on a winning run, bookmakers sometimes limit your stakes or even close your account. Luckily there's always the Betting Exchanges. They will never restrict or close because it's not their money you're winning -- it's other people's.

The Exchanges match people who bet a horse to win with people who bet it to lose -- and they take a small commission in the middle. The companies don't offer "Best Odds Guaranteed", but their odds are usually better than the bookies, so it's swings and roundabouts.
