The rainforest in the Congo Basin is the world's second largest rainforest, and is located in the heart of Africa. The Congo Basin is home to a number of unique plant and animal species, and the rainforest is central to avoiding global warming.

In 2015, six African countries - Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Republic of Congo, signed an agreement with a group of donor countries to cooperate about protecting the rainforest around the Congo River called the Congo Basin.

The collaboration is called the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI), and is the largest international collaboration to protect the Congo Basin. The aim is to maintain the value of the forests in the region, limit climate change, reduce poverty and promote sustainable development.
