It was absolute carnage at Wankhede as the pair of Samson and Ishan went berserk, bringing up the team 100 in just 8.3 overs, the second-fastest for India in T20 World Cups. Ishan played a fine cameo of 18-ball 39 before holing out in the deep as the 97-run stand was broken by Adil Rashid.

Shivam Dube was promoted up the order to take on the English spinners and he didn’t disappoint. Samson at the other end kept scoring at a rapid rate before holing out in the deep on 89 in the 14th over. His 42-ball knock comprised 8 fours and 7 maximums.

Skipper Suryakumar Yadav at five failed to make an impact as he got stumped on 11. Dube hit some lusty blows before getting run out on 25-ball 43 in the 18th over. Cameos from Tilak Varma (21 off 7) and Hardik Pandya (27 off 12) powered India to 253/7 at the end of their 20 overs, the highest total in T20 World Cup knockouts.
