It's amazing what you stumble into if you let yourself wander off the main highway...and that's what happened to me on the way home from the Knoxville Nationals. I saw the road signs for the American Gothic House in Eldon, Iowa and I couldn't resist. After a great tour of the property and house that served as the backdrop for artist Grant Wood's famous and priceless painting "American Gothic", I stumbled upon an old 1917-built bank in town that now serves the Raw Americana Candle Co. & Soapery. You'll meet the interesting gal who runs the business, who also has a keen eye for the historical artifacts she discovered inside the old bank.
