This hike takes in two of the three peaks of Mt Superbus, before descending to the wreck of the RAAF Avro Lincoln Bomber, which crashed in April 1955 while evacuating a 2 day old baby girl from Townsville to Brisbane for a medical emergency. Due to the high impact crash there were no survivors. The aircraft was found to be on a SE heading at full throttle just before impact.
Interestingly, it was flying at a relatively low altitude to ensure the baby had a comfortable flight. There are a number of different theories as to why the aircraft was so far off course & crashed.

The hike starts on the eastern side of the Mt Superbus ridgeline near Teviot falls. We head up a long spur with a few steep sections along the way as well as some forests of Giant Stinging Trees, with many of the young trees at head height requiring extra care in these sections.
Once on the top of the ridgeline, we head up the ridge to the north peak. We then continue down the ridgeline past the junction turnoff to the main peak. This peak is the highest in South East Queensland at 1375m. Of the three peaks, only the south peak has any sort of partial views.

The faint footpad starts to drift west through forests of tree ferns as the ridgeline narrows, eventually climbing the ridge to the south peak.
The wreck lies about 100m down from the peak just off the west ridge. The area has a rather sad feel to it, with large sections of the aircraft still visible, including a substantial section of the fuselage.
Returning via the same route gives a good perspective of the steep sections climbed earlier in the day.
