The Indo-Tibetan Border Police said that it had done the drilling work to reach till the second tunnel at Chamoli as part of the rescue operations in the flood-hit Uttarakhand. An attempt is being made to lower the camera through this pit. Work is going on to increase the area of the drilled portion.

Meanwhile, relatives of 34 people trapped in the tunnel staged a protest against the NTPC authorities. Rescue operations in the Tapowan tunnel were halted on Friday due to the rising water levels in the Rishi Ganga river. Rescue vehicles and machinery were evacuated from the river bank.
170 people are still missing after flash floods. Of the 34 bodies recovered, only 10 could be identified. DNA samples of the bodies will be collected to identify the bodies. The place where the documents with details of persons who were working at the dam site were kept was also washed away in the flash flood. However, officials said most of the workers were from UP and Bihar.
