AAPC certification cancellations—what they look like, how the process works, and what the reinstatement policy is all about. We'll also cover how to go about it and the timeline. So, let’s dive into it! First off, when does certification cancellation happen? Before our certification gets cancelled, we usually get three chances. What are those chances? Well, let’s say our certification renewal date is September 30.
Once it's complete, we get a 30-day grace period after that. During this grace period, there’s no fine. So if it ends on September 30, you won’t get fined until October 30. You can renew it for free anytime during that period. But if you go past the 30 days into November, then you have until December, which gives you a total of 90 days. After those 30 days, you get another 60 days. So basically, you have 90 days total after the initial 30 days. If you renew anytime within those 90 days after the first 30 days, you’ll have to pay $50.
We can do it, but it's been over 90 days and we haven't renewed. We can't just renew it ourselves. So, what we need to do is apply for a reinstatement. Reinstatement means we have to check how much it’ll cost to renew our certification. We'll ask the APC people, and if we do, they'll create a quote for us. According to that quote, we have to pay the amount they mentioned to complete the renewal process. This all has to be done after 90 days but within three years.
If three years have passed and you think it hasn’t been renewed, then our credentials are completely cancelled. There’s nothing you can do to renew them after three years. The only thing you can do is take the retake exam again to get new credentials. You’ll only get your credentials if you pass that exam, otherwise, you won’t. Now, let’s check how the reinstatement policy works. First, let’s gather some info. I’ve put this in the slide, right? The info is @aapccom, remember?
We need to email them. Whatever we send, has to come from the APC email. Make sure to use that email only; if you use a different one, they won't respond. Just mention your name and member ID in that email and ask for the reinstatement statement. I'll handle my certificate renewal, just let me know how much it is. They usually respond like this: "Dear Member, thank you for submitting your request for the reinstatement statement.
So, dear member, your request for reinstatement has been approved, which means whatever you applied for is good to go. You'll get a code number, like 85083321, but just so you know, everyone gets different numbers; you won’t get the same one as someone else. I'm just giving an example here. They create a unique code and give it to you. Now, to see this, you need to log into the AAPC app. Once you log in, you’ll see your name in the top right corner.
"When you click on our name, you'll see an overview and purchases, and then a line of four or five steps will pop up. Go into purchases and click on it; you'll find the invoice number, which is 50 83321. Under that, there will be a highlighted card in the middle that says 'Quick Pay Now.' As soon as we click on Quick Pay, it will redirect us and ask for our card details. We need to provide our card details, and then enter the amount for the payment. Just remember that when you're giving your card details."
I'm telling you again and again, the big mistake a lot of people make is sharing their card details with someone else, whether it's a brother or a friend. You shouldn’t just put your name there; you need to use the name on the card that's being used. If you put your name instead, it won’t work. When you enter the amount and it asks for the card details, you have to provide the name that's on the card. If you give your name, it won’t go through. So, just use the name on the card and enter the amount, and then the renewal process will be complete.
