Fractions are the division or separation of a whole, into smaller parts

Mainly talking about parts of a whole

A fraction is made up of three components:
A top number/Numerator: represents the parts we have
A bottom number/Denominator: represents the total amount of parts available
A division line: identifies the type of problem we are dealing with, ie. fractions and division


There are three main types of fraction:

Proper
Improper
Mixed Numbers/Fractions

Proper fractions
Numerator is Smaller than the denominator, examples:

1/2 3/4 1/4 1/1000000

Improper fractions
Numerator is bigger than denominator

4/3 6/5 10/3

Mixed fractions/numbers
a whole number, and a proper fraction

Tips:
Any fraction with the same numerator and denominator = 1

Any two fractions that when divided out, give the same number are called equivalent

Any fraction with a zero on top = 0,Unless the denominator is 0, you cannot divide any number into zero parts
