Knowing the value of your brewery is just as important as knowing the balance of your checking account. The reasons for a valuation could include buying out the interests of a deceased business partner, divorced spouse, or investors who choose to exit. Valuations are also vital for setting up Employee Stock Ownership Plans or designating shares to relatives in your estate planning, or perhaps you want to compensate employees with stock in the brewery, stock options, or other incentive units. Maybe you want to use your brewery's equity to raise capital, take on a loan, or attract private equity groups. If any of these are a possibility, you need to determine the value of your brewery. Now, what exactly goes into a valuation? This presentation will cover the key concepts and steps to help you understand how a valuation is determined, what types of reports it will generate, and how to use that data.

Owen is a Senior Manager of Valuation and Litigation Support Services at Brady Ware & Company, a regional CPA firm with offices in Ohio, Indiana, and Georgia. Owen specializes in the appraisal of breweries, distilleries, and complex securities. He has performed valuations for a variety of purposes, to include, ESOPs, divorces, shareholder disputes, taxes, and mergers and acquisitions.
