Ming Tomb is located at the foot of Dulongfuwan Mount Everest at the southern foot of Zijin Mountain, Xuanwu District, Nanjing. It is adjacent to Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum in the east and Meihua Mountain in the south. It is located in the scenic area of Zhongshan Mountain. Covering an area of more than 1.7 million square meters, it is one of the largest imperial tombs in China.
The Ming Tomb was built in the 14th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty (1381) and was completed in the third year of Yongle (1405) in the Ming Dynasty. It successively deployed 100,000 military workers and lasted 25 years. Inherited the old system of "mountain as mausoleum" in Tang and Song emperor's mausoleums, and created a new system of square tombs as the hills. The harmonious unity of humanity and nature to achieve the perfect height of harmony between man and nature has become an excellent model of combining Chinese traditional architectural art and culture with environmental aesthetics.
The Ming Tomb, as the head of the Ming and Qing imperial tombs in China, represents the highest achievement in architecture and stone carving art in the early Ming Dynasty, and directly influenced the shape of more than 20 emperors’ tombs in the Ming and Qing Dynasties over 500 years.
