Many people do not understand what a prosthetic eye is and how it functions, in fact it is not typically a glass eye and it is not a round ball. That is the implant that goes inside. The prosthetic eye is removable as you will see in this video where ophthalmologist and Oculoplastic surgeon, Dr Zac Keenum, explains how prosthetic or fake eyes work. Needing a fake or prosthetic eye can occur after injury or loss of vision with resultant pain and after eye surgeries such as enucleation and evisceration.
