The new bridge span now carries traffic north and south with confidence — wider, smoother, and built for the future.

The original span has entered its final phase — carefully dismantled piece by piece above the railroad tracks, while the remaining section awaits its dramatic implosion.

Soon, a twin sister bridge will rise beside the first, completing a bold, dual-span design that reflects the needs of a growing city.

This $160 million transformation marks the first time ODOT has used the bridge-launching technique — assembling massive sections on land and pushing them forward with hydraulic precision. A safer, smarter way to build — and a powerful symbol of progress.

With over 114,000 vehicles traveling this route every day, these new bridges will reshape the flow of traffic, ease congestion, and create a smoother journey. Construction continues through 2028.
