Описание к видео St Clether Church, Chapel and Holy Well, Cornwall

A look at the Medieval church, chapel and holy well at St Clether, near Launceston in North Cornwall. St Clether is a beautiful and peaceful place, and is one of my favourite areas in Cornwall.
A bit of history about this place - St Clether Church is dedicated to St Clederus and was built during the 12th century, with a 15th century tower. It was built to replace the nearby chapel which St Clederus originally founded, which was originally the parish church. St Clether Church is now the church serving the parish of St Clether, which is bordered by the parishes of Treneglos, Laneast, Altarnun, and Davidstow.
Following the path down along the Inny Valley, you eventually reach the original chapel of St Clederus, slightly hidden in an area where you wouldn't expect anything to be around. This chapel was founded by St Clederus himself in the 6th century, beside a holy spring which is St Clether Holy Well. The present chapel dates from the 15th century, which analysis of the wall showing that it was built some time around 1490, however the chapel went into disrepair by the 19th century. During the end of the 19th century, Revd Sabine Baring-Gould organised for the chapel to be rebuilt to the exact same layout and precise measurements as it was originally. The chapel was rededicated in the year 1900. The alter of the chapel is incredibly old, dating from the 4th century, as much as 200 years before St Clederus allegedly founded the chapel here, which suggests that there may have been a chapel here before St Clederus arrived.
The holy well of St Clederus can be found around the back of the chapel, built in a granite well house. St Clederus' Holy Well predates Christianity, however, like all holy wells, were adapted to become Christian, and dedicated to a Christian saint.
The whole area of St Clether, set within the Inny Valley, is stunning and peaceful. Long, narrow windy roads lead to the village, which is quite literally in the middle of nowhere on the edge of Bodmin Moor.
