We’re back in the Blue Mountains during this video, showing a JJ Richards truck collecting the recycling in the lower mountains suburb of Blaxland. I took this quite a while ago now during the last recycling contract, which saw the crate system changed to a weekly collected 140L comingled service. When the contract started in the middle of 2008, the company sent 5 side loaders out to service the region, 3 with the big 35m bodies and 2 with the smaller 25m bodies. I caught one of the large trucks a few months into the job with my then new video camera and a few years later I returned for one of the featured standard size vehicles.

Halfway through this year a new collection contract commenced with JJ Richards and once again a new fleet of trucks has been rolled out, including a few different models/sizes. However, recycling has become a fortnightly service with a bigger bin and a fortnightly green-waste collection has also been introduced to the region! The recycling bins in this video are now red lidded garbage bins and the old garbage bins are now yellow lidded recycling bins... or are they the greens bins? I understand the lid swap wasn’t too thorough either. At some point I’ll probably get back out to the mountains for the new services and new trucks.
