I Let Spotify Autoplay 1000 Songs

What would happen if you created a new Spotify account with no listening history and asked Spotify to autoplay music? What sort of music would it play? Hip-Hop? Pop? R&B? Or something more extravagant?
 
And what if you let Spotify autoplay for 1000 songs, effectively speedrunning the platform as you would Wikipedia? Where would you end up? You could, as my thumbnail illustrates, be recommended a popular rapper such as Playboi Carti (‘2024’, ‘BACKR00MS, ‘FE!N’) ’to start with and end up listening to someone completely unrelated at the end like…Mozart.
 
In fairness, the similarities between Carti and Mozart are closer than you might think, and you could argue that they both have a catalogue of ‘classics’, but that’s neither here nor there, the purpose of today’s video is to find out which songs and artists Spotify recommend most.
 
As part of my Spotify speedrun journey, I’ve put together a bingo board of sorts to tick off as we go along where I’ve predicted what will be played. On that card is ‘a Yeat song’, as a sort of call back to my Yeat Translator video, ‘a white rapper’, so someone like Eminem, Jack Harlow, Drake, ‘Astronaut in the Ocean’, naturally, and more.
 
As you’ll find when watching this video, the recommendations reached a wide variety of genres; but Hip-Hop seemed to be the favourite. I heard lots of tracks from Juice WRLD (‘Lucid Dreams’, ‘Robbery’, ‘Come & Go’), Travis Scott (‘MY EYES’, ‘I KNOW’, ‘pick up the phone’), Lil Uzi Vert (‘Wokeuplikethis*’, ‘Shoota’, ‘Pink Tape’) and, of course, Playboi Carti (‘HOODBYAIR’, ‘CARNIVAL’, ‘Sky, ‘I LUV IT’).
 
In fairness, it wasn’t all rap; as pop received a lot of plays too. Spotify recommended plenty from Post Malone (‘I Had Some Help’, ‘Fortnight’), The Weeknd (‘One Of The Girls’, ‘Popular’), Billie Eilish (‘HIT ME HARD AND SOFT’, ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER’), Ariana Grande (‘eternal sunshine’, ‘we can’t be friends’) and Carti collaborator Camila Cabello (‘HE KNOWS’, ‘C,XOXO’).
 
But which artists and songs were recommended the most? You’ll have to watch to find out!
