Excalibur, Excalibur Aircraft, Excalibur Experimental Aircraft Builder, Owner, Pilot.

The Excalibur is an American two seat tandem, high wing, pusher configuration aircraft that is manufactured in kit form for amateurbuilt construction, by Excalibur Aircraft of Sebring, Florida. It was introduced in 1993.

Excalibur Aircraft Design

The Excalibur features an upright engine mount, using a gear box to spin a longer more efficient propeller in either two or three blades. It has a large tail vertical surface which increases stability, and uses push pull tubes for aileron and elevator activation.

The Excalibur is covered in standard aircraft fabric covering material. The long, wide fuselage gives ample backseat comfort for the pilot room. The design is streamlined to reduce drag and round cross-section wing struts were replaced with aerodynamic extrusions. The landing gear system features a very robust bungee cord suspension system.

The Excalibur is available in the US as an experimental amateurbuilt aircraft, and can be flown with a sport pilot license. In Canada it is available in the amateur-built, Basic Ultralight and Advanced Ultralight categories.

Options include:
60-hp HKS 700E air-cooled 4-stroke or 4O-hp Rotax 447 air- cooled 2-stroke engine, instruments (ASI, altimeter, tach, dual CHT dual EGT, panel-mounted compass, ignition switch), standard or amphibious floats, fiberglass wheel pants, BRS ballstic emergency parachute, doors, strobe lights and paint materials.

Construction is 6061-T6 and 2024-T3 aluminum tube airframe with chromoly steel weldments where needed, stainless steel pop rivets and AN or military spec hardware.

No welding or machining is necessary and all the critical work is completed at the factory.

The kit for the Excalibur II features prebuilt tail surfaces, wings, ailerons end fuselage, and all the controls are already installed. Build time for the kit is estimated at 100 to 200 hours.
