A St. Louis native, Lewis F. Muir composed some of our most beloved ragtime songs. It isn't generally known that Muir recorded at least two of his compositions for the American Piano Control of Belleville, NJ in 1912. This company produced piano rolls which were faithful reproductions of hand playing; marketing these under their "Rhythmodik" and "Solostyle" labels. Muir's playing style is illustrative of vaudeville performance traditions of the early 'teens. Sadly, Muir died from consumption in 1915 at the age of 32 years.
