Basics of Distance Protection

Описание к видео Basics of Distance Protection

Distance protection is one of the most important tools in the hands of the protection and control engineer. It is the most commonly applied protection for transmission lines either as a single protection or as part of a distance teleprotection scheme.

In this webinar we will review the basics of distance protection and the associated terminology. We will discuss the principles of distance protection such as calculating the distance to a fault from the electrical signals measured at one end of the circuit for different types of faults with emphasis on phase to ground faults and the calculation of the k factors; the principles of amplitude and phase comparators and the basic shapes of the impedance characteristic and their representation on an XR diagram. Finally, we will discuss the influence of factors like fault resistance and source impedance ratio on the operation of the distance protection.

The webinar will serve as an introduction to distance protection and will give the protection engineer the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the principles behind distance protection.
