Grave of Edward Bruce - The Last King of Ireland, at Faughart Old Graveyard

Grave of Edward Bruce, younger brother of Robert the Bruce, was born in Scotland in 1280 and became the last High King of Ireland after helping his brother in his struggle for the Scottish crown between 1306 - 1314. He was proclaimed King in 1315 and crowned in 1316. He was killed by Anglo-Irish forces of the Lordship of Ireland at the Battle of Faughart in County Louth on the 14th of October 1318, and his grave can be found at the Faughart Old Graveyard. A commemorative stone, the 'Bruce Boulder', was unveiled in 2023 at the graveyard.
