So Day 2 of my trip and was my 1st time up to Cambridgeshire and before any spotting I decided to take a journey to Kings Lynn from London Kings Cross to see what it was like especially to places I've never been to before.

So onboard a pair of Class 387s (387126 & 387122) on the 0742 Great Northern service from London Kings Cross to Kings Lynn

Calling at Finsbury Park, Cambridge, Cambridge North, Waterbeach, Ely, Littleport, Downham Market, Watlington and Kings Lynn.

So beginning at London Kings Cross and departing Platform 9 which the station layout was extensively re-modelled in 2021 which included the restoration of the original Gasworks Tunnel 3 which had been out of use since the original electrification of the ECML in 1974.

So the journey itself the first leg up to Hitchin is on the East Coast Main Line which also included an extra stop at Finsbury Park because on the morning of filming Thameslink services via St Pancras International had disruption due to Overhead Power Supply Problems.

After Finsbury Park we run non stop to Cambridge which we diverge away from the ECML north of Hitchin onto the Hitchin Flyover which we run non stop through the Cambridge Line via Letchworth Garden City and Royston.

Not far from Cambridge we join up with the West Anglia Main Line from Stansted Airport and London Liverpool Street.

After Cambridge we call at the most recent station in the area of Cambridge North where most Greater Anglia services from London Liverpool Street terminate.

At Ely being a busy junction for not just services to Peterborough, Norwich and Ipswich but also freight.

After that onto the Fen Line which after Littleport we travel on Single Track until Downham Market which remarkably still retains it's original Network Southeast condition.

The line is back to double track as far as Watlington which we continue on the final section of the journey on Single track before terminating at Kings Lynn.

At Kings Lynn trains on average get 10 - 15 minutes before returning to London Kings Cross

Greater Anglia services to and from London Liverpool Street rarely continue beyond Cambridge North except for a few trains a day with some originating to and from Ely and one service in the morning and evening continue to Kings Lynn.
