Apple announced on Oct 22nd 2013 that all new macs would come with the iWork Suite for free instead of having to purchase it through the Apple App Store.

Also if you have the iLife Suite installed, iPhoto & iMovie are updatable to the newest version which in turn allows you download the newest version of Garageband too.
