You might have heard about the recent new results on the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon from the Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab (FNAL). The measured result differs from the Standard Model prediction by 4.2 sigma, and is currently getting a lot of interest from the particle physics community.


But, there are also measurements of g-2 of the electron and tau leptons. Here, we look at why g-2 of the muon is the most interesting of the three right now. It results from the interplay of the precisions of the three measurements and the relative sizes of effects expected in each measurement by physics beyond the Standard Model, such as supersymmetry or dark matter.
