Sean Coeckelenbergh, MD (Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium) discusses whether we can move from a reactive response to NOL, to a predictive one, as well as the effect of dexmedetomidine on NOL monitoring.

Dr Coeckelenbergh explains through the results of his study how:
• NOL can be used to determine the response to a noxious stimulus to predict the optimal antinociception needed before incision
• Using a multimodal approach that combines opiates with dexmedetomidine is a promising way to individualize antinociception with NOL
