The IF function in Excel is a logical function that compares a value to what is expected and returns one value if the condition is true and another value if it is false:

Description
Logical_test
The condition to be tested and evaluated as either TRUE or FALSE
Value_if_true
The value that will be returned if the logical_test evaluates to TRUE
Value_if_false
The value that will be returned if the logical_test evaluates to FALSE
The IF function can be used to: Evaluate text and values, Evaluate errors, Perform additional calculations, and Nest multiple IF functions together.
The IF function is typed as =IF and the different parts of the function are separated by a symbol, like comma or semicolon. For example, =IF(C2=”Yes”,1,2) says: "IF(C2 = Yes, then return a 1, otherwise return a 2)".
You can also use the IF function with the AND, OR, and NOT functions. These functions can be used on their own, but it's more common to see them paired with IF functions.
