In this video coach John Shepherd (http://www.johnshepherdfitness.com/blog) looks at the use of various conditioning means to improve jump power at take-off. He focusses in particular on the use of a mat/low box for the penultimate step from which the jumper comes down from to make a take-off/full jump. The idea is to overload the eccentric phase of the take-off (also known as the compression phase), to improve it to boost the subsequent concentric extension from the take-off phase. The video also contains some interesting research from the Valencia World Indoor Champs long jump. Researchers were able to split the eccentric/compression and concentric phases down into the two components for the male and female jumpers.
Various drills are described/showcased for both the long and the triple jump, together with coaching points and related conditioning ideas.
