Ran Wei arrived at WMU from China in August of 2015 to learn English and to complete a graduate degree in sports management through a twinning program WMU has arranged with Hubei University. Wei said studying and participating in activities in CELCIS—WMU’s intensive English program, laid a solid foundation for her to feel confident as she transitioned into University classes. “The CELCIS teachers were all really friendly, kind and patient,” she said “They did a wonderful job of helping us adjust to being international students in the United States.”

CELCIS offers intensive English language courses at Western Michigan University. The CELCIS curriculum teaches students valuable skills such as research, writing, and presenting that helps students succeed in the university. Students who complete CELCIS are admitted directly into the university, and are not required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score for admission. Most CELCIS graduates go on to study in WMU undergraduate or graduate programs.
