Calculating a Carbon to Nitrogen ratio for accurate proportions of input materials and a look at a compost pile. With the correct input proportions of browns (C) and greens (N) a compost pile will easily reach temperatures of 150 degrees F for several days. 131 degrees F for a few days will kill most pathogens and most viable seeds in the pile.
