RACE REPORT - ‪@Quick60Challenge‬ - Mallory Park Circuit

After months of preparations, we were ready to compete in our most exciting single-day event of the year - the Quick60 Challenge organised by Retro Rides, and part of the Retro Rides Gathering weekend!

The Quick60 is a unique event where competitors are gradually eliminated from each class until only two remain for a final shoot-out. The challenge is to stay fast without making a costly mistake.

In last year's event we progressed all the way to our class final, surprising ourselves most of all! We were eventually well beaten by Ian Pitman in his Mini Cooper, but we became enamoured with the event and vowed to return stronger in 2024.

This year, we overcame two major issues within 12 hours of the event - with an emergency driveshaft change the night before and a major fuel leak to contend with just as we were leaving for the circuit!

But we made it, and after morning practice, we had the 3rd fastest time in the 'Sportsman' class, 0.39s behind Santos Tirado in his Abarth 124 Spider and a further 1.83s behind Fraser McNeill in his Honda Civic.

As the Elimination rounds started, we benefitted as some potentially very fast cars ran afoul of the Track Limits / Escape Road rules and had their times deleted. And, with a little more speed found over lunchtime, we moved up into 2nd place by a slim 0.26s margin.

In the second Elimination round, we posted a new all-time personal best lap (81.58s), narrowly edging out our best 2023 time by 0.05s! However, Santos went faster still, with his own personal best time (81.10s) to bump us back into 3rd position.

In the next Elimination round, only three cars remained, and despite neither of us improving on our previous times, Santos maintained his 0.40s advantage resulting in us being eliminated from the competition in 3rd place.

Santos would go on to contest the final strongly but didn't quite have enough speed to deny Fraser in the Civic.

Despite the disappointment, it was a great shock and privilege to be invited to be in the promotional material for the event. Credit to Jordan Butters for the image, and I hope we'll have more content to share with you soon.

Thanks to all of my fellow competitors (especially those representing the ‪@JavelinTD‬ Sprint Series), the marshals, photographers, staff and David & the gang at ‪@TheRetroRides‬.

We'll see some of you again at Anglesey Circuit / Trac Môn and the rest of you in 2025!

RESULT: 3rd of 10 in Class E (Sportsman)
