Autumn has settled over Chimney Creek Farm, and life feels slower… but the work hasn’t stopped. Our grammas are swelling on the vine, promising a beautiful pie for winter. Paul’s been working tirelessly on the verandah, mixing cement by hand, lifting heavy beams with nothing more than an old jack, sheer determination—and a little help from kind neighbours who lent us tools.

Out in the garden, the daikon radish is flowering, parsley and red spinach are popping up like pioneers, and the garlic and calendula I planted weeks ago are finally sprouting. But not everything is a win… a rat has been stealing my kale seedlings, and it feels like such a blow after all the care we’ve poured into this soil.

Eli has been back in hospital for more oesophageal banding, and my heart has been heavy with worry for him. This life we’re building here—one seed, one beam, one breath at a time—feels even more precious when you’re reminded how fragile everything truly is.

The verandah is finally up, just in time for a big autumn storm, and for the first time, we stood dry and safe beneath it. Puppy Truffles has claimed her new spot under there, keeping one sleepy eye on us as the sun returns.

This is late autumn at Chimney Creek Farm—hard work, small victories, worry, kindness, and hope.
