Our kitchen was missing something, so I decided it was time to tackle a project I’ve been dreaming about: a real backsplash! I took out the builder-grade short backsplash (thankfully a quick demo job!) and replaced it with a herringbone tile pattern. Spoiler alert: this was probably the hardest layout I could’ve chosen!

In this video, I’ll walk you through the process of:
• Removing the old backsplash
• Installing herringbone tiles (with lots of trial and error along the way)
• Choosing the perfect grout and silicone color (hello, decision fatigue!)
• Wrapping things up with a sidesplash

Let me tell you, tiling is not for the faint of heart. Every tile needed precise cuts, and for every one I got right, I broke another. But there’s something so rewarding about finishing a DIY project like this—especially one that feels so permanent. Plus, knowing I saved money by doing it myself feels like a win!

From learning the angles to appreciating the work that goes into professional tile jobs, this project gave me a whole new perspective. After a few long days (and maybe some late nights), I’m finally done, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.
