The Prophet Zarathustra and the Origins



Zoroastrianism began a very long time ago in the region that we now call Iran. A prophet named Zarathustra started this religion after he received a special vision from a higher power. He lived many centuries before other famous monotheistic religions like Christianity or Islam were established. Most historians believe he lived between 3,500 and 3,000 years ago during the Bronze Age. His teachings changed the way people thought about the world by introducing the idea of one single god.



Ahura Mazda the Supreme Creator



The followers of this faith believe in one powerful god named Ahura Mazda who created the entire universe. He represents everything that is good and wise in the world and sustains all of life. This god is not a human being but a spiritual force that guides people toward the truth. In this religion, he is the source of light and the protector of all living creatures. People pray to him to find strength and to make the right choices in their daily lives.



The Struggle Between Good and Evil



Zoroastrianism teaches that there is a constant battle going on between good and evil forces. While Ahura Mazda is the god of light, there is an opposing spirit named Angra Mainyu who represents darkness and lies. Every person must choose which side they want to support through their own actions and thoughts. This belief explains why there is suffering and why people must work hard to do the right thing. Eventually, the religion teaches that the good side will win this long battle forever.



Three Pillars of Good Conduct



There are three very important rules that every follower of the faith tries to follow every day. These rules are known as Good Thoughts, Good Words, and Good Deeds to help people live a moral life. By thinking kind thoughts, a person is more likely to say helpful words to their neighbors. Performing good deeds means helping others and taking care of the environment around them. These three pillars are simple to understand but they require a lifetime of practice and dedication.



The Sacred Element of Fire



Fire is considered the most sacred symbol in this religion because it represents purity and the light of god. Inside Zoroastrian temples, a holy fire is kept burning at all times to show the presence of the divine. People do not actually worship the fire itself but use it as a focal point for their prayers and reflections. It serves as a reminder that light always has the power to overcome the darkness of the world. Cleanliness is very important when tending to the fire to show respect for the creator.



The Avesta Holy Scriptures



The teachings of Zarathustra and the laws of the religion are written down in a collection of books called the Avesta. This holy text contains many hymns, prayers, and stories that explain how the universe was made. Some of the most famous parts are the Gathas, which are poems said to be written by the prophet himself. Students study these ancient writings to learn about the history and the rituals of their ancestors. The language used in the oldest parts of the Avesta is very similar to ancient Sanskrit.
