What happens when today’s composers try to write a piano concerto that sounds like one of the masters? Can it be done? Similarly, what would happen if one of today’s musicians tried to write and record a song that sounded like the Beatles in 1967. The era of psychedelic rock that the Beatles invented from scratch beginning in 1966 blew so many minds it ain’t funny. So here is an attempt to compose and record a song that sounds like that signature Beatles psychedelic rock, John Lennon style.

Drew is the leader of the Sun Kings - the best Beatles tribute band in the world - and Drew sounds a lot like John Lennon, don’t you agree? On drums, the great Chuck Sullivan. On bass, fabulous Tad Wadhams. Marc Roberts does the backing vocals, guitars, organ, and synth trumpets and strings. The trumpet intro and outro we played on a Roland 2000. The Beatles would have hired the best trumpet player in the London Symphony Orchestra, or maybe brought in Herb Alpert. If Herb had played on the song, they wouldn’t have credited it, just like they didn’t credit Eric Clapton on “While my Guitar Gently Weeps.” NTTAWWT! All it means is that we were listening to the best musicians in the world backing up the Beatles. And they deserved nothing but the best.

The Beatles could’ve recorded this tune in a couple of hours and mixed it down in a day. Marc Roberts took 15 years to write this song, and three years to record it. Fortunately, Marc does not have a record contract, and he is not under corporate pressure to produce a vinyl.
