For many years I considered myself a minimalist. I decluttered most areas of my life. I kept what belongings I had simple and streamlined. At the time, this gave me the sense of freedom that I craved. Living light gave me the flexibility to move around, and focus on finding out what really mattered to me. With time, I found that.
Now I have entered a different era. I am in a period of beautifying my life. For years, as I kept things simple, I gave up on the beauty of ceremony. There was little space for objects of wonder, for things beyond the essentials. No wardrobe variety, no formal settings, no seasonal decor.
Now I want to carve a space for a personal history and ritual. This festive season I plan to submit myself to the act of celebration. I will bake, I will decorate, I will dress up, I will be merry.
