6. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Anna Ryzhykova, 34, Ukrainian track and field athlete:
"Winning a medal just for oneself, to be a champion and to fulfill personal ambitions, is not appropriate right now. At the moment, we have a different motivation. We compete to draw attention to Ukraine, to attract more media coverage, to keep raising the issue of the war, and to advocate for the exclusion of Russian athletes. We do get a lot of attention, but we only attract attention when we win, when we perform, when we are on the podium. The higher the prize placement, the more attention it attracts."

8. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Anna Ryzhykova, 34, Ukrainian track and field athlete ++INCLUDES ANGLE CHANGES++:
"When I’m away at training camps and read the news about massive missile attacks. I’m constantly messaging, checking if everyone is okay, and staying up all night. Yes, it really affects me, but we don’t have the right to give up now."

11. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Anna Ryzhykova, 34, Ukrainian track and field athlete:
"In my city, Dnipro, during training, whenever an air raid siren goes off, everyone heads to the bomb shelter. It’s the same during competitions. You sit in the bomb shelter for an hour, then come out for 15 minutes, start warming up, moving, and then the siren goes off again, and you go back to the shelter. It’s impossible to establish a normal training routine, which is why I constantly go to training camps. It’s impossible to just come to training when you want, do your work, and then go rest."

"An air raid siren going off again today. Now I need to take a jump and see if it's coming our way to understand the trajectory. At least we have the chance to know where it's heading, which makes it a bit easier. (AUDIO Siren) Oh, there's another one…"
23. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Henadii Zditovetskyi, 66, Oleh’s coach:
"We know that we have this huge goal of making it to the Olympic Games and performing well to support our Ukrainian team. So, we keep training despite the alarms. I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but under these conditions, we continue to train no matter what. It's like that. The siren wails, and no one knows if something will hit or not. Where should we look? At the bar or the sky? Should we take cover or not? Oleh is jumping, and God willing, everything will be fine."
