Hyderabad Traffic Police Organizes "Arrive Alive" Road Safety Awareness Program at Vasavi Engineering College

The Hyderabad Traffic Police, in collaboration with Vasavi Engineering College, organized a massive road safety awareness campaign titled "Arrive Alive" today at the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, Ibrahim Bagh. The event, held between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM, saw the participation of over 600 students and faculty members.
Key Highlights:
• Distinguished Guests: The program was graced by Sri D.Joel Davis, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, as the Chief Guest. Other notable attendees including 1) Sri B.K.Rahul Hegde, IPS, DCP Traffic, 2) Dr.S.V.Ramana, Principal of Vasavi College of Engineering, 3) Sri Ch.Venugopal Reddy, Addl.DCP Traffic, 4) Sri P.Venkateshwar Rao, NSS Coordinator of Vasavi College of Engineering along with senior traffic officials and the College Principal.
• *Sri Joel Davis highlighted that the 'Arrive Alive' movement was initiated by the State DGP to ensure road safety awareness reaches every household and institution*.
• Addressing the gathering, Jt. CP Sri Joel Davis stated that nearly 8,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in Telangana last year. He emphasized that 70% to 80% of these deaths are preventable through basic safety precautions. Students were educated on 'Defensive Driving'-the skill of avoiding accidents even when others make mistakes. The socio-economic impact of accidents on families was also discussed.
o To encourage bystanders to help accident victims, the Jt. CP explained the 'Good Samaritan Act':Helpers are not mandated to provide personal details or phone numbers. Police will not coerce helpers to become witnesses against their will. Private hospitals are directed to provide immediate treatment during the 'Golden Hour'. The government is exploring reward systems through the Transport Department for those who save lives.

• *Sri Rahul Hegde, IPS, DCP Traffic*, reminded students that roads are common public property. He noted that traffic rules are designed to ensure equal access and safety for every citizen. The program concluded with a call to action for students to become ambassadors of road safety.
