"In the velvet dark nights of that final Autumn, it became our habit to don our warmest jackets and settle in front of a blazing chiminea with a wee big dram of the smoky Ardbeg on our tongues. We would watch the sparks soar in fragrant spirals into the blue-black heavens where they merged with an infinity of twinkling starlight. Time was suspended there for us, with only the flames flickering shadows and light into the mirrors of our eyes. We would watch the moon arc its journey towards a new dawning, leaving only a trace of ghostly light to separate matter from space. Here hung Macfarlane's Lantern, shining translucent beams that whispered between the past and the future, enticing us to grasp what we could from the moment.
