Your time is valuable. It takes time to go to a conference, to invest the time. Make sure you’re getting a good return on investment, when it comes to educating yourself.

I spend a lot of time at conferences, either as a speaker or an attendee. I want to make sure that I’m getting a good bang for my buck. So I do a certain amount of homework before I event leave the house for the event.

First first thing I want to do, I’m either going to download the app to get the schedule or I’m going to look at a pdf of the schedule. I want to decide what sessions I am going to attend.

Sometimes, there may be a situation where there are two sessions at the same time. Both look really good, how do you decide?

Often then, I will look up the presenters. See if they have articles, website. See if there is better expertise with one than the other.

Sometimes someone can write a great description but the session is forgettable. Also, I want to make sure that I’m attending sessions that will help me reach goals for the event.

Am I just going to certain sessions because they’re kind of fun and comfortable and I know a lot about them. Or am I gonna go to some sessions where I’m going to be pushed? And you have to think differently.

Finally thing is you need to have a plan for after the event. I go through my notes and decide what are potential action steps that I can take. You don’t want to have good notes that are a shelf getting dusty. You want to make sure they’re being acted upon.
