Chasing waterfalls at Cedar Wonders in Southern Illinois. This is one of my top 3 spots in the Shawnee National Forest for chasing waterfalls. Aside from Cedar Wonders, there are quite a few areas in southern Illinois for chasing waterfalls. Please share this video if you want me to upload more like it!

After parking at the parking lot on Gum Springs Road, walk on the road and passed the bridge to get to the R2R trail on the same side as the parking lot. Stay on the trail and stick to trails that follow the creek to see the waterfalls. Easter Basket Waterfall is at N37 30.051 W88 46.881 and the arch is near N37 30.254 W88 46.919 as well as a cascade. JD waterfall is at N37 30.305 W88 47.197. There are more out there and plenty of bluffage, too!

1. How long is Cedar Wonders? This depends on how long you want to hike and how quick you want to do it. I can spend 10 hours out there hiking 8-10 miles. There is a lot to see. Most hikes will be at least 6 miles in length.

2. Is Cedar Wonders a rugged hike? Yes - Jackson Hollow is very rugged and while it is not a wilderness area, it is a lot like one. It is easy to get lost if you are unfamiliar with the area. I do not recommend visiting alone. Make sure you have a GPS with you before you go and mark the location you started in so that you can find your way back if you get lost.

3. Do horseback riders use Cedar Wonders? Yes. Please yield to horseback and mule riders if you see them. Talk in a calm but loud voice so that the rider and pack animal knows that you are present.

4. Any additional tips for Cedar Wonders? Try to stay on the trail at all times to avoid hazardous conditions. Poison ivy and venomous snakes are present on this trail. Bring plenty of water and snack when visiting this trail. There are no trash services on this trail so please pack out what you pack in.
