Prime Minister James Marape has reassured the nation that Bank South Pacific (BSP) remains strong and stable, even as the Government reintroduces the National Banking Corporation (NBC) to drive financial inclusion.

The Prime Minister says the NBC is not a competitor to BSP, but a development tool to bring affordable banking services to rural and remote areas, helping farmers, landowners, and micro-entrepreneurs.

He outlined key goals for NBC:

Expanding banking into rural provinces and districts

Providing credit facilities for small businesses and landowners

Supporting community service obligations

Reducing the cost of banking for ordinary citizens

Driving inclusive wealth creation


BSP remains the largest financial institution in PNG and the Pacific, with strong national ownership through superfunds and local investors.
