I break down a study in this video that looked at what happens when people with constipation, straining, abdominal pain, and even anal bleeding reduce their dietary fiber. The interesting part is that the intervention was simple: lower the fiber, or remove it completely. And for every person who went to zero fiber, their symptoms resolved.
Most of what we hear about fiber is based on associative data, not actual intervention. So when we finally see a study that tests it directly, the results are worth paying attention to. In this case, increasing fiber made symptoms worse, reducing it helped, and removing it cleared the issues entirely.
I’m not telling anyone to avoid fiber. The point is to look at the data honestly and notice when the body is giving you clear feedback. If removing something gets rid of your symptoms, that’s probably meaningful.
