Mandible Warrior

This song was an absolute joy to create! The main riff had been sitting in my “ideas” folder for a while in standard tuning. However, after restringing my beloved Joellë and tuning it to Drop C, I immediately knew I had to develop and share it. The middle section was an incredible experience to craft, starting with the harmony, which was inspired by listening to Mozart’s Requiem. I aimed to create a pulsating sound, so I wrote a riff where the rhythm guitars play separate parts that combine to form a complex, progressive chord progression. This section leans heavily into a progressive style, and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

The solo is the part I’m most proud of. Initially, I considered leaving the rhythm guitars to carry the harmony on their own, but the progression was too captivating to stop there. While experimenting, I fell in love with how the B6 transitioned into the Fm7b5 and resolved beautifully to a Cmadd9. At that point, I knew the solo needed to be fully fleshed out. It took me about a week to come up with a solid idea and another week to master my own solo. Now, I’m thrilled with the result! I’m even considering making a tutorial video on how to play it—partly for anyone interested, and partly as a reminder for myself in case I forget it in a few months.

This song was composed and mixed entirely at RedRoom Recordings. It features Joellë, my gorgeous six-string Peavey guitar in Drop C, and my stunning Albisëla, a MusicMan StingRay 5 bass. Both were powered by Neural DSP plugins. The drums were programmed using EZdrummer 3, and everything was mixed and mastered in Logic Pro.

Thank you for listening.

This track is dedicated to my faithful guitar strap, which tragically broke during the making of this video.
