The Tragedy of Madinah (Harrah Incident)
In 63 AH, the people of Madinah rose against Yazid’s tyranny. In response, Yazid sent his army to crush the city of the Prophet ﷺ.
For three days, Madinah was left at the mercy of the soldiers. Thousands were killed, including companions and followers of the Prophet ﷺ. Homes were looted, women were dishonored, and the sacred city was brutally violated. This event became known as the Battle of Harrah, a black chapter in Islamic history.

The Attack on Makkah
After the tragedy of Madinah, Yazid’s forces marched toward Makkah, where Abdullah ibn Zubair (RA) had taken refuge near the Ka‘bah.
Yazid’s army besieged Makkah and used catapults, causing stones and fire to strike the Holy Ka‘bah. Parts of the Ka‘bah were damaged, and the sanctity of the Haram was openly violated — an act that shook the entire Muslim world.

Yazid’s Legacy of Oppression
Yazid’s rule is stained by three major crimes:
1. The martyrdom of Imam Husayn (RA) in Karbala
2. The massacre of Madinah
3. The attack on Makkah and the Ka‘bah

These events stand as undeniable proof of his ظلم (oppression). The desecration of Islam’s holiest cities remains a lasting reminder that power without justice leads only to destruction.

A Lesson for the Ummah
The sanctity of Makkah and Madinah is beyond politics and power. Whoever violates them stands condemned by history.
