#wipchat Tutorial for creating affordable printed editing proofs using a Never-Live draft.
I am going to teach you a workaround that does not violate TOS and will never be submitted for sale. You will learn to create a version of a book that will NEVER go live with the internal matter that can be changed as needed to create new editing proofs.
First of all, prep your DOCX. I use MS Word, and there are five steps you need to do to make this the best editing proof you can. Formatting does not have to be fancy, just as basic as possible.
1. Size matters 9x6 or 5.5x8.5
2. The thinner the margin, the cheaper the print cost.
3. Make certain you are using a copy where all comments are resolved.
4. Center Header using WIP title- editing copy, and Footer page numbers.
5. Chapter headings and blank notation page after each chapter.
Now it is time to create the editing proof for (???) in your back end.
Here are steps to creating a multi-use Never-Live book. It’s just like when you create the real books that you will sell. The difference is the title will never change and never go live. My is uncreatively enough called “WIP Draft For”. Do not fill in the book name in the subtitle line as that cannot be changed once the ISBN is assigned.
“But Mama, how can we tell which book it is?”
Don’t worry. We’ll fix that when we get to the cover-making part.
Here are the eight steps
1. Create a paperback book
2. DO NOT fill in subtitle and select General Fiction as the only category.
3. Get ISBN assigned to your Never-Live copy.
4. Upload the DOCX
5. Create a cover.
a. Select a simple one. Your choice of colors and images uploaded, if you want.
b. The Never-Live title will appear at top then you can put the name of the book in the subtitle area and on the spine.
c. On the back put the WIP name in one box and Editing Print Proof/Copy in the second
d. Save and Submit the cover
6. Look at the document and accept
7. Order proof copy to your Amazon cart and Buy it.
8. Enjoy the 10 days to two weeks to get the proof WITHOUT messing with the WIP. This is your WIP vacation. Get out of your world, so when you get the proof you can look at it with fresh eyes.
And that’s it.
I don’t know how hard this is in the Barnes and Noble or Ingram Spark backend, but it shouldn’t be that much different, AND Now you have a printed proof of your book to edit and enjoy.
