Ray Chen performing Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 in G Major, K. 216, at the Senior First Rounds of the Menuhin Competition #Cardiff2008. At the time, Ray Chen was 19 years old and it was his second time competing in the Menuhin Competition. He had won 3rd Prize in the Junior section in London in 2004 and returned in 2008 to take the 1st Prize in the Senior section.

His career has taken off since then. After winning the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2009, he was shortly after signed by CAMI and Sony Records. He is now one of the leading violin soloists of his generation.

Founded by Yehudi Menuhin in 1983, the Menuhin Competition is the world's leading international competition for young violinists. The Competition attracts hundreds of entries from countries across the globe, choosing only 44 of the world’s very best young violinists to participate. Held every two years in a different world city the Competition discovers, encourages and nurtures exceptionally talented young musicians from all corners of the world under the age of 22 years to develop into the next generation of great artists.
