At Connected North this year, we caught up with Georgia Grimes, Director of Fibre Build at Openreach.

So far, Openreach has delivered full fibre to 14 million homes, more than any other provider. The company has recently reached a build rate of more than one million home per quarter, and are the only company to balance out their rollout between urban and rural locations proportionally.

However to receive a good return on the investment of the fibre build, there needs to be an increase in the uptake of fibre. Openreach’s take up sits around the 34% mark, with around 4.5 million customers currently on the network.

Grimes confirms that doing all this sustainably is of paramount importance to Openreach. The network Openreach is building uses 80% less energy than its legacy network, and is five times more reliable.
