The New Cool is a collaborative jazz album released in 2015 by pianist Bob James and bassist Nathan East, both founding members of the group Fourplay. The project was recorded in Nashville at several studios, including Yamaha Entertainment Group Studios, and was produced by James, East, Chris Gero, and Bryan Lenox.

The album emphasizes the intimate interplay between piano and bass, creating a refined yet warm atmosphere. It features original compositions such as the title track The New Cool and Oliver’s Bag, alongside fresh interpretations of classics like Willie Nelson’s Crazy. One of the highlights is How Deep Is the Ocean, which includes guest vocals by Vince Gill.

Upon release, the record performed well on the charts, reaching #2 on Billboard Contemporary Jazz Albums and #5 on Billboard Jazz Albums. It was also made available in high-resolution audio formats, including HDTracks 24-bit/48 kHz, which offered greater dynamic range and detail compared to standard CD quality. This version allowed listeners to experience the subtle nuances of James and East’s musical dialogue with exceptional clarity.
