In this video I have discussed the basic introduction of corpus linguistics. Firstly I have provided a brief definition of corpus as a large collection of machine readable text. Secondly I have explained the difference between word corpus as a collection of text and corpus linguistics as a methodology as well as a separate branch of linguistics. I have quoted definitions of corpus from the works of leading linguists Sinclair and J.R Firth. Both have defined corpus as body or collection of computer readable text that are used for linguistic analysis.
Further I have discussed several examples of corpus linguistics such as The Brown Corpus of Standard American English printed in 1961 and British National Corpus BNC formed in 1990s.
In the end I have discussed few features and uses of corpus linguistics.
