How to Install Marine Air Conditioning in 4 simple steps 😜

Описание к видео How to Install Marine Air Conditioning in 4 simple steps 😜

In this episode we continue readying Calico Skies to leave the U.S. for the foreseeable future. Our cruising goal this season is to arrive in Central America prior to hurricane season. Once we arrive we anticipate hotter temperatures and more time spent in marinas. For this reason we are installing marine air conditioning. This is a big project and we will break it up into two episodes.

A marine air con requires several things to run. The first of which is raw water (sea water) to remove the heat from the compressor. We don't want to haul the boat right now so we install a y valve on our watermaker seacock under the galley sink and run a hose forward to where the air conditioner will be installed. As usual this is easer said than done and requires a bit of cutting and drilling as there are no existing conduits for the 5/8 hose run.

We opt to install the compressor in one of our closets between the salon and forward cabin. The unit is too large to fit through the existing closet door so we need to do some demolition work to widen the opening and gain access. Once that is complete we build a shelf for the compressor to sit on. There is nothing straight or level on a boat so we spend some time working out the geometry.

With the shelf built it's time to work on the electrical connections. We run wiring aft from the closet to the main electrical switch panel and complete connections to our electrical panel. With the connection tested we mount the air conditioners electric box as well as the feed water pump underneath the shelf that will hold the compressor.

Brian (S/V Delos) drops off our new inverter charge, another project we will complete prior to departing the U.S. Join us next time when we install the inverter as well as complete the installation of the air conditioner!
